2022 Year-End Overview
Since 2013, Benue State in Nigeria, a Christian-majority state, has witnessed incessant attacks from armed Fulani bandits, an extreme Islamic ethnic group. These invasions have resulted in the massacre of thousands of people, destruction of communities, and often, total obliteration of economic and cultural assets in these communities. According to a September 2021 report, there are currently over 1.8 million internally displaced persons in Benue State. With more than 300,000 living across several IDP camps in the state, about 45% of this population has been estimated to be children, many of whom have either been out of school within the last 9 years or have attained school age but have never been enrolled. At least 44,000 of these children are reportedly malnourished.
Our Ministry
Restore Mission is working to restore hope to these families by providing education to these vulnerable children and economic empowerment training to the adults. Across two IDP camps in this state, Restore Mission is currently educating more than 1,200 kids in a free school program with over 1,000 free school meals served every school week. With More than 50 adults economically empowered till date, and over a thousand families served twice a year with food relief packs, there is still so much more to do.
Urgent Needs
Of the 1,200 kids in our learning program, more than 700 kids currently sit under trees to learn as there are no classrooms. Help us to raise $20,000 to build 12 tent classrooms with chairs and desks to provide a more conducive learning environment for these kids.
