Update
COVID-19 has impacted people all over, but some of the hardest hit communities have been those who were struggling even before the world-wide pandemic struck. On the island of La Gonâve in Haiti it is imperative that people have the ability to travel to the mainland where the majority of their supplies come from. Being cut-off from the mainland severely impacted the entire community. Market workers who relied on sales were forced to shut down their businesses leaving their families with literally no way to purchase food. With food prices being triple what they were prior to the pandemic, we were able to provide emergency funding to purchase food for the most vulnerable in the community. Despite the severe drop in currency value, PiFò Haiti continues to assist students with tuition support, food programs, and uninterrupted payroll for the teachers and support staff.
Help Us Reach Our Goal
Urgent Needs
The Canadian dollar vs the Haitian Gourde value has decreased by almost half in a 30 day period. This drastic change means our costs in Haiti have basically doubled as we are losing 40% of our purchasing power. The average family is struggling already due to the pandemic and now with the currency devaluation they are desperate.
Our Ministry
PiFò is a Haitian Créole word meaning, “stronger”. Since 2011 we have been working alongside a team of Haitians on the island of La Gonâve in an effort to empower future generations through education and development programs. Our partnership ties together quality education, exceptional training, and a food assistance program to ensure generational progression and hope for the future in Haiti. We offer student scholarships, vocation training, food programs and teacher training certifications.
