At Grace Center we receive hundreds of abandoned babies each year. Farmers find them in the fields or by the side of the road and bring them to us or sometimes we receive them from the hospital when a young, scared mother gives birth and then slips out when no one is watching. In each instance there is a mother who is desperate and needs help. Grace Center is committed to give her that help and end child abandonment in Ethiopia.
Our Ministry
The number one reason women abandon their children is because they do not have access to daycare. Grace Center opened Ethiopia’s first daycare center 15 years ago when Marcie Erickson, at just 19 years old, answered God’s call to serve orphaned and abandoned children. Grace Center is serving people where they are at – however messy or broken – and meeting their needs so they can live the lives God has planned for them. We are blessed to now serve over 13,000 people a year and transform their lives forever.
Urgent Needs
Grace Center recently launched the Baby Rescue Hotline. In Ethiopia, there has never been a 9-1-1, but now there is a number people can call when they feel like they have no options other than to abandon their child. We sent a text message of “Don’t Abandon Your Baby” to 5 million people and within three days we had over 500 phone calls and they keep coming in. Women called for help or others called for them and we gave them hope for today and for all eternity by sharing Christ’s love for them and directing them to or providing the services they needed.
