About This Project:
This ministry is located in Freetown, Sierra Leone (West Africa) and focuses on the population who have Deaf-Blindness and Special Needs. Special Needs in Sierra Leone are looked down upon or even cursed due to their disabilities. Not only that, but there are also not enough trained staff that are working with the nationals who have heart for these populations. Often, national teachers are not professionally trained and are just given the position if they are willing with out much support.
I work as a Volunteer Teacher at Miltion Margai School For The Blind (MMSB) in Freetown (Government funded school). My position includes teaching visually impaired students from primary to Jr. High students in Practical Arts and Braille. I am also involved in translating, editing, and publishing regular academic textbooks and lecture notes into Braille.
Also, I partner with National Deaf School and different NGOs in training various staffs in Braille, Signing, and on how to work with and provide inclusive classrooms for the students with Special Needs.
Why give to this project?
The goal is to provide and equip the national teachers and staff with the proper and needed resources and knowledge in working with Special Needs. In doing so, we aim to show the love of Christ, reminding them that they are Not Forgotten!
