What kind of help would you want if you were struggling to provide for your children?

Shade Tree Foundation’s Family Rescue Program is about giving hope to hopeless families and preventing child abandonment. Families protect children. We protect families.

In this border region, migrant worker, refugee, and hill tribe families live in extreme poverty and struggle with a whole host of injustices that lead to despair, and often, child abandonment. When families are too weak and desperate to protect their own children, their children get hurt.

In Southeast Asia, 4 out of 5 “orphans” have families who have placed them in institutional care. Forty-one percent of trafficked children are launched by their own family. All due to poverty.

We help families stay together, which combats the root causes of child trafficking and orphaning. If we heal and strengthen families, we reduce the orphaning of children by 80%, and reduce child trafficking by at least 41%.

Family Rescue is partially supported through GCF Canada and is one part of a three-part approach to equipping families with the wisdom and courage they need to protect their children and raise them to be the heroes they were born to be. We give desperate families hope through nutrition packages and visits offering friendship and counsel. We walk with them through their crisis until they are strong enough to walk on their own once more.

Some families that we help include:

Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. This is a critical time to make sure that mother and infant have proper nutrition and ease the burden on the family of the mother not being able to work.
Families with a disabled child who requires special care.
Single parent families.
Families where one parent has been sick for a long time and can’t work.
Families that haven’t been able to find work and have no way to get food.

Once these families have the space to breathe, and move from survival mode to begin to thrive, they are ready for our other programs that continue to add wisdom, strength and courage.

Please pray for all migrant workers in this city. A recent wave of COVID19 has led to extreme lockdown measures, including curfews and travel restrictions, that are burdensome and harmful.
