Word Made Flesh Sierra Leone seeks to holistically care for the vulnerable children, youth, women, and families in the Kroo Bay slum area of Freetown. Our ministry focus is on education, health, discipleship, and the prevention of sexual abuse. Alé Alé House of Hope, our ministry center, is a place where our neighbors from Kroo Bay can experience community, hospitality, and safety. In addition to our ministry activities, children and youth are welcomed to share meals and play in the playground.

As a ministry, we journey with those who face extreme poverty and many challenges. “Jane”, and her child “Mary” are two people that we have been able to build a relationship with and disciple over the last few years. Jane faces many health challenges and is a single parent. Jane met one of our staff during our weekly outreach in Kroo Bay and joined our Women’s Ministry. She is now learning tailoring as a trade, receiving good medical care, and being mentored in her faith. Her child Mary has been enrolled in a local school and comes frequently to our community center to play. Jane’s story is similar to many of our friends in Kroo Bay, who come from difficult situations but find hope through the long-term friendship and care of WMFSL.

As we continue to serve the community of Kroo Bay, we are so grateful for the Great Commission Foundation (GCF) and our friends from Canada, who continue to financially support and pray for us in the work we are doing in Sierra Leone. Your continuing support enables us to serve the community of Kroo Bay and people like Jane and Mary.


Prayer Request:

  • Please pray that the vulnerable children, youth, women and the families from Kroo Bay we work with would come to know the living God in a powerful way.
  • Pray that the children, especially the girls, in Kroo Bay would be protected from any form of abuse, especially sexual abuse.
  • Pray that the vulnerable women in our Women’s Ministry would have strength and courage to continue to choose a better way of life for themselves and for their loved ones.
  • Pray that the children and youth in Kroo Bay would be given educational opportunities and that they would have motivation to learn.
  • Pray that God would grant the Word Made Flesh Sierra Leone staff patience, courage, love and faith to continue to serve the vulnerable in Kroo Bay.
